MANILA, Philippines — While the daily average of COVID-19 infection last week had decreased, OCTA research on Sunday noted a “flat” reproduction rate in several local government units (LGUs).

Based on its latest report, the OCTA Research Team said “the trends in the Philippines, NCR (National Capital Region), and many of the ‘hot’ LGUs (local government units) are ‘flat.’”

The daily average rate of COVID-19 reproduction, however, has decreased by 5 percent from July 4 to 10.

According to OCTA, having a “flat” reproduction rate means the LGU has a reproduction rate of at least 0.9 to 1.1; this also means that there is no significant upward or downward movement in the infection rate.

Currently, the COVID-19 reproduction number in Metro Manila is at 0.91, an increase from the previous 0.85. Metro Manila had also been consistently below 0.90 since April.

Meanwhile, Davao City continues to lead the list of LGUs with the most number of daily COVID-19 cases, but also currently has a “flat” rate of 1.00.

Other areas of concern that have a “flat” reproduction rate are Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, Baguio, and Calamba.

Despite this, Davao City, Iloilo City, General Santos City, Baguio City, Tagum, and Santa Rosa are all still considered “high risk” areas.

All the other areas in the list and the remaining parts of the country as a whole are considered “moderate risk” areas.

Intensive Care Unit utilization rates, on the other hand, continue to be at critical levels in Davao City, Iloilo City, and Santa Rosa.
