Ilocos Norte logs 67 new COVID-19 cases

LAOAG CITY—At least 67 residents of Ilocos Norte province were infected with COVID-19 on Wednesday, health officials said.

The provincial government also reported that an 87-year-old man from this city succumbed to COVID-19 complications.

About 35 percent or 278 of the 795 active COVID-19 cases in the province were in Laoag City, 101 in Bangui, 79 in Batac City, 54 in Badoc, 52 in Currimao, 40 in San Nicolas, 32 in Dingras, and 20 in Paoay, according to local health data.

Ilocos Norte had recorded at least 4,223 total COVID-19 cases since last year, of which 3,352 had recovered while 76 had died.

The Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center, which serves as the primary COVID-19 treatment center in Ilocos Norte, said 58 of its 86 beds exclusively dedicated for COVID-19 patients were already occupied.

The hospital also reported that seven of its health workers were exposed to the disease and had to be isolated.
