CEBU CITY — The biggest cluster of COVID-19 infections in the city was recorded this week when 49 people at a construction site here tested positive for the coronavirus.

Councilor Joel Garganera, deputy chief implementer of the city’s Emergency Operations Center, said this was the first time in several months when a huge number of people contracted the virus within the same workplace.

All 49 workers, he said, had been taken out of the construction site and taken to local isolation centers.

Garganera said the infections were detected after more than 100 workers underwent swab testing for COVID-19 when their coworker tested positive in an antigen test last week.

Most of the workers lived in a single bunkhouse at the construction site in Cebu I.T. Park, Barangay Apas. —DALE G. ISRAEL AND NESTLE SEMILLA
