DOH sends 27 medical personnel to Tacloban City hospitals amid COVID-19 surge

TACLOBAN CITY––The Department of Health (DOH) has deployed 27 medical personnel to different hospitals in this city amid a spike in COVID-19 cases.

Dr. Exuperia Sabalberino, DOH-Eastern Visayas officer-in-charge, said 20 of the medical personnel were from the regional headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP), while the seven others were from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

She thanked the 27 medical personnel for coming to Tacloban to help their counterparts and residents of the city.

“We assured you that during your stay in the hospital, you will be secured,” she said.

Sabalberino said the 27 other nurses and one doctor earlier deployed by DOH-8 to the National Capital Region would soon return to the region.

Tacloban has 593 active COVID-19 cases out of a total of 3,442. Eighty have died.

Fire Officer I Lynette Rabi, one of those sent to Tacloban, said she was happy to serve people in the city.

“I am a little bit afraid, but I will do my assigned work,” said Rabi, a registered nurse assigned at BFP-8.
