Año warns gov’t officials not honoring PhilID card
MANILA, Philippines — The home affairs office on Sunday warned government officials and employees who refuse to honor, without just cause, the Philippine ID (PhilID) card in transactions as proof of identification, would face sanctions.
Interior Secretary Eduardo Año has directed all local governments to accept the PhilID card as sufficient proof of identity without requiring any other additional identification document in transactions with the public.
A PhilID card contains the registered person’s name, picture, date of birth, address, gender, marital status and date of birth. Refusal to honor the PhilID card would merit a P500,000 fine and a lifetime ban from public office.
