Grace Poe says no plans to run for president in 2022

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Grace Poe on Saturday said she has no plans on seeking the presidency in the 2022 national elections.

Poe issued this statement after opposition coalition 1Sambayan nominated her and five others for president or vice president in the upcoming polls.

“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa patuloy na pagtitiwala ng ating mga kababayan. Ngunit wala akong planong tumakbo sa pagka-Pangulo sa darating na eleksyon,” Poe said in a statement.

(We are thankful for the continuous trust given by our countrymen. But I have no plans to run for president in the upcoming elections.)

“Sa abot ng aking makakaya bilang senador, nais kong pagtuunan ng atensyon ang pag-ahon ng ating mga kababayan mula sa pandemyang ito,” she added.

(In whatever way I can as a senator, I want to keep my attention on how to help our countrymen overcome this pandemic.)

Apart from Poe, the coalition’s nominees for president and vice president were former Vice President Leni Robredo, former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, CIBAC Party-list Rep. Eddie Villanueva, human rights lawyer Chel Diokno and Batangas Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto.
