Duterte due in Bulacan to honor Del Pilars, frontliners in Independence Day rites

CITY OF MALOLOS – President Rodrigo Duterte is scheduled to visit Bulacan to pay tribute to the province’s heroes, Marcelo H. Del Pilar, Gregorio Del Pilar and their families as well as COVID-19 pandemic frontliners as the nation celebrates its 123rd Independence Day on Saturday.

The President is set to raise the Philippine flag and offer wreaths to the monuments of Marcelo H. Del Pilar and Gregorio Del Pilar in front of the provincial capitol in this city at 3 p.m.

Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando said the people of Bulacan are very grateful the President chose to celebrate the occasion this year in the province and give recognition to its greatest sons.

Fernando said this year’s Independence Day ceremonies are “not only meant to pay tribute to our forefathers who fought for our independence against Spanish oppressors but also to our medical and health frontliners who died and continue to battle and champion our fight against COVID 19.”

A simple celebration is also slated at the Barasoain Church in Malolos town Saturday morning to honor COVID-19 heroes.
