TACLOBAN CITY — Eastern Visayas on Wednesday recorded the highest single-day tally of COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started in 2020.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), the region now has 361 new cases, bringing the total number of infections to 22,766 where 1,723 were considered as active.

With the continued spike of COVID-19 cases in Eastern Visayas, the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force (RIATF) on Emerging and Infectious Diseases passed a resolution last June 4 reminding all the local governments to intensify the implementation of the health protocols.

“Despite the rising COVID-19 cases and entry of the variant of concern in the region, there are reports of violations and non-observance of the protocol and the seeming neglect of their duty by local government officials, especially those at the barangays,” the RIATF said in its resolution.
