Ilocos Sur barangay under ‘extreme’ ECQ as COVID-19 cases surge
LAOAG CITY—Barangay Namruangan in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur was placed on a two-week “extreme” enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) starting May 29 due to a surge of COVID-19 cases, Mayor Edgardo Cobangbang, Jr. said Sunday.
ECQ is the most restrictive quarantine classification in the country.
Cobangbang had approved Resolution No. 19 of the local task force against COVID-19 which ordered the change of quarantine classification in the village, after at least 31 new COVID-19 cases, mostly village officials were recently reported.
The rest of Cabugao will remain on modified ECQ until June 8.
Cobangbang also ordered the temporary shutdown of some stalls in the Northern Ilocos Sur Trade Center (NITC) after 13 vendors tested positive for COVID-19.
As of May 29, the town has 61 active COVID-19 cases.
