435 immigration personnel at Naia reshuffled

/ 04:32 AM May 12, 2021

More than 400 Bureau of Immigration (BI) officers at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) were reshuffled to prevent corruption among BI personnel. Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said 356 front-line immigration officers assigned at Naia were affected by the rotation, which will be implemented on Wednesday. Apart from immigration officers manning the Naia’s immigration booths, the terminal assignments of 79 immigration supervisors were also changed. Morente said the BI reshuffle was part of the ongoing initiatives of the bureau to cleanse and reorganize its ranks. “The objective of this rotation scheme is to avoid fraternization in the workplace, which studies have pinpointed as a possible source of corruption,” he said. Morente said BI-Naia personnel would be rotated every three to four months.
