Fair weather, afternoon thunderstorms expected in most of Luzon — Pagasa
MANILA, Philippines — Fair weather is expected in most of Luzon but localized thunderstorms may still occur in the afternoon or evening, especially in the southern part of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Tuesday.
Pagasa weather specialist Meno Mendoza said the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is still affecting the weather in Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, while the easterlies or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean are affecting the rest of the country.
“Dahil sa epekto ng ITCZ, dito sa Mimaropa, patuloy na mararanasan ang maulap na kalangitan na may kalat kalat na pag-ulan, pagkidlat at pagkulog. Sa nalalabing bahagi ng Luzon, magiging maaliwalas ang panahon. Asahan pa rin ang localized thunderstorms lalo na pagdating ng hapon at gabi,” he said in a weather forecast issued Tuesday morning.
(Because of the effects of the ITCZ, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms can be expected in Mimaropa. In the rest of Luzon, there will have fair weather. However, localized thunderstorms may be expected especially in the afternoon or evening.)
The ITCZ is where winds coming from the northern and southern hemisphere converge, bringing clouds that cause rains in affected areas.
Meanwhile, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are also expected to prevail in Visayas and Mindanao, according to Mendoza.
Mendoza warned of flash floods or landslides that may occur during heavy rains in areas affected by the ITCZ.
He also advised residents of areas affected by the ITCZ to monitor rainfall and thunderstorm warnings to be issued by Pagasa.
