MANILA, Philippine – The prosecution on Thursday slammed the temporary restraining order by the Supreme Court that barred the Senate, acting as the impeachment court, from issuing a subpoena on the foreign currency accounts of Chief Justice Renato Corona.

In a press conference, Aurora Representative Sonny Angara, prosecution spokesman, said that they were saddened by the high tribunal ruling.

“Kami ay nalulungkot sa [We are saddened by the] decision, we hoped that they will do the good thing,” Angara said.

“We will study it carefully, read it fast or slow, depending on how fast we read and we will take necessary action,” Quimbo said in the same press briefing, adding, “We need to defend the Constitution.”

When asked if the Supreme Court ruling could trigger a constitutional crisis, Quimbo said: “The Supreme Court brought it upon themselves,” he said.

“[The SC needs to] recognize the Constitution, recognize the impeachment as a separate legal process.”
