COVID-19 growth, attack rate going down — DOH
MANILA, Philippines — The two-week COVID-19 growth rate and average daily attack rate (ADAR) in the country are going down as the Department of Health (DOH) notes a “slowly” declining trend of new cases.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire announced in an online news briefing that the national growth rate of COVID-19 over the past two weeks is now -15 percent compared to the 11 percent in the previous three to four weeks.
“Ibig sabihin nito, kahit dumadami ang kaso ngayon ay nakikita na natin ang patuloy na pagbaba, although slowly, nitong nakaraang dalawang linggo,” Vergeire said in an online press briefing.
(This indicates that although the number of cases is still high, we are already witnessing a downward trend, although slowly, over two weeks.)
Meanwhile, the ADAR also decreased from the previous 9.21 per 100,000 population in the previous three to four weeks, to only seven cases for every 100,000 population in the past two weeks.

“We have improved currently to an average of 25 per 100,000, and while this is an improvement, this is still beyond the 7 per 100,000 [thresholds] that we have set for high-risk classification,” said Vergeire.
The ADAR of 25 cases per 100,000 population covers April 18 to May 1, according to DOH data.
Vergeire said this ADAR in the NCR could still overwhelm the healthcare system if measures are not taken.
Besides the decreasing two-week growth rate and attack rate, Vergeire said the DOH also noticed a “downward trend” in the number of hospital admissions. However, she added that the current decongestion has yet to reach a “significant” level at hospitals.
The country currently has 69,466 active COVID-19 cases, including 7,255 new infections reported on Monday.
