7,255 new COVID-19 infections push PH’s active cases to 69,466
MANILA, Philippines — A total of 7,255 new COVID-19 infections were recorded by the Department of Health (DOH) on Monday, May 3, pushing the active cases count to 69,466.
Data from DOH showed that 9,214 patients recovered from the disease, bringing the total number of recoveries to 975,234. However, 94 additional deaths meant that the death toll is now at 17,525.
All in all, the country has 1,062,225 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Most of the patients or 94.7 percent of active cases have still exhibited mild symptoms only, while 1.8 percent were asymptomatic. At least 1.4 percent of the patients currently have severe symptoms while 1.1 percent are in critical condition.
Of the 44,107 tests conducted since May 1, DOH said that 15.7 percent tested positive. In terms of COVID-19 bed capacity in the National Capital Region which is still reeling from the recent surge, 74 percent of intensive care unit beds have been utilized while 50 percent of isolation beds are occupied.
DOH said that 13 duplicate entries were removed from the total case count, of which nine are recoveries. Also, 51 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified to deaths after further validation.
