Pagasa: Heavy rain likely over Bicol Region, eastern parts of Luzon due to #BisingPH
MANILA, Philippines — Vast portion of Luzon’s eastern section, including the Bicol Region, will experience overcast skies and moderate to heavy rain due to Typhoon Bising, the state weather bureau said Monday.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Bising has been moving slowly along the country’s eastern waters and is forecast to also affect the Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region as well as the provinces of Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan on Tuesday, April 20.
Based on Pagasa’s weather updates on Monday afternoon, Bising will bring rain over these areas even if it does not hit land because it has a wide diameter and a long-reaching trough.
“Meron din pong okasyon na posibleng malakas ang pagbuhos ng ulan, at posible ‘yang magdulot ng mga pagbaha at pagguho ng lupa,” weather specialist Ariel Rojas said.
As for other parts of Luzon, including the western section that includes the Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and Metro Manila, weather may be warm and humid through Tuesday morning but with a high chance of thunderstorms by afternoon and night.
Due to the rains, temperatures in some Luzon areas will possibly be lower than usual with Legazpi having something between 24 to 28 degrees Celsius; Tuguegarao, 22 to 29 degrees Celsius; Puerto Princesa, 25 to 31 degrees Celsius; and Baguio City with 15 to 24 degrees Celsius.
In contrast, Metro Manila will still have temperatures of 25 to 33 degrees Celsius while Laoag will have 23 to 33 degrees Celsius and Tagaytay City, 22 to 31 degrees Celsius.
Visayas may also experience rain on Tuesday, especially Tacloban which may register temperatures of 23 to 28 degrees Celsius — slightly lower compared to Cebu’s 24 to 30 degrees Celsius and Iloilo’s 25 to 30 degrees Celsius.
Mindanao, on the other hand, may start to feel fairer weather, as Davao and Zamboanga’s temperatures return within 25 to 33 degrees Celsius and Cagayan de Oro, 24 to 31 degrees Celsius.
Earlier, Pagasa said Bising was able to maintain its strength, packing maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 240 kph.
It was last spotted 500 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon, moving slowly in the north-northwest direction.
Bising is expected to continue such a trajectory, which means that it will be around 465 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora, by Tuesday afternoon. It would then be nearest to land on Wednesday afternoon, at 360 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
Pagasa said Bising may gradually weaken but will remain as a typhoon for the rest of the outlook period.
