BREAKING: ‘Bising’ intensifies into typhoon; no signal warnings raised yet
MANILA, Philippines — Severe Tropical Storm Bising has intensified into a typhoon as it entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). But the state weather bureau has not raised any signal warnings for now since the typhoon is yet to directly cause any severe weather disturbance on any part of the country.
In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Bising was located 960 kilometers east of Surigao City in Surigao del Norte, packing maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph.
It is moving westward at 15 kph, according to Pagasa.
Although Bising is forecast to steadily gain strength, it is less likely to make landfall in any part of the country, the state weather bureau noted.
However, Pagasa said that by Friday night, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 may be raised over some localities in Northern Samar and Eastern Samar.
“It is likely that the winds and heavy rains associated with this tropical cyclone will begin affecting portions of Eastern Visayas and Bicol Region beginning on Sunday,” it also said.
