JBC to interview candidates for chief justice
MANILA, Philippines — Candidates for the position of chief justice will face the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) for a public interview on March 12.
Only three senior justices of the Supreme Court are vying for the chief justice post, which will become vacant upon Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta’s early retirement on March 27.
They are Senior Associate Justice Estela Perlas Bernabe and Associate Justices Alexander Gesmundo and Ramon Paul Hernando. The JBC said the interview would be conducted via Zoom starting at 9 a.m.
Each of the three magistrates will be allotted two hours for the interview. Bernabe will start at 9 to 11 a.m., followed by Gesmundo at 1 to 3 p.m., then Hernando at 3 to 5 p.m.
The JBC said the public may submit a sworn complaint, report or opposition against any of the candidates either by personal delivery or by mail in 10 legible copies to the JBC, 2nd Floor, Centennial Building, Supreme Court, Padre Faura Street, Manila.
