5 COVID-19 patients die in Quezon amid drop in number of cases

LUCENA CITY –– Five more patients died from coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Quezon province on Feb. 13 and Feb. 14, bringing the death toll to 241 amid the continuous drop in the number of new cases.

The Integrated Provincial Health Office in its 5 p.m. report on Feb. 14, said three patients from Gumaca and one from Atimonan died.

Tiaong also reported another COVID-19 death on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Of the 241 deaths from COVID-19 in the province since March last year, at least 17 were recorded in February.

Another 36 patients succumbed to COVID-19 in January.

The IPHO in its latest report issued at 10 a.m. Feb. 15, said the province continued to record a drop in the number of active COVID-19 cases.

As of Monday, Feb. 15, the number of active virus carriers in the province further slid to 237, its lowest daily tally and a notable drop from 343 on Feb. 1.

The highest tally of active COVID-19 cases in Quezon was recorded on Nov. 12 last year at 1,119.

From Feb. 1 to the morning of Feb. 15, a total of only 207 cases have been recorded.

In January, the province logged 696 COVID-19 cases; December, 845; November, 1,612; and October, 1,717.

Janet Geneblazo, Quezon public information officer, explained that most people in the province have learned and are now observing safety and health protocols to prevent the spread of the virus.

Quezon, still under modified general community quarantine status, has logged a total of 7,121 COVID-19 cases, but at least 6,643 have recovered.
