The state weather service is monitoring on Friday a low pressure area (LPA) that is forecast to move toward Mindanao and the Visayas next week.

As of 3 p.m., the LPA was outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), or 1,665 kilometers east of Mindanao, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The weather system is expected to enter PAR on Tuesday or Wednesday. The LPA is forecast to track westward and move close to Mindanao and the Visayas, bringing with it rain showers.

“It’s possible that these scenarios will change so stay updated with the bulletins of Pagasa,” weather specialist Ariel Rojas said.

Meanwhile, a diminished northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” is currently affecting the northern and central parts of Luzon.

Because of this, Pagasa said there should be no significant drop in temperature in the coming days.

Isolated light rain are expected in Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Metro Manila and Calabarzon.

Warm weather will be experienced in Southern Luzon, as well as the Visayas and Mindanao. Pagasa said there’s a high chance of isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening in the Visayas and Mindanao.
