Cold weather to persist in Luzon due to amihan

MANILA, Philippines — Cold weather is likely to carry through in Luzon over the next few days as the northeast monsoon or “amihan” affects the region, particularly its eastern section, the state weather bureau said Friday.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Shelly Ignacio said the northeast monsoon is getting stronger that cold weather may be expected even in Metro Manila.

Meanwhile, the state weather agency said northeast monsoon will also bring rain over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol Region, Aurora, and Quezon.

Flash floods or landslides may occur during moderate with at times heavy rains, it warned.

The northeast monsoon will likewise bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rain over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, although with no significant impact, according to Pagasa.

The rest of the country, on the other hand, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers brought about by localized thunderstorms, which may cause floods or landslides, Pagasa said.
