3 more patients die of COVID-19 in Quezon province; death toll rises to 212

LUCENA CITY –– The death toll from the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Quezon province rose to 212 after three more patients died on Wednesday.

Records from the Integrated Provincial Health Office as of 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, listed the deaths of two validated virus carriers in this city and one in the town of Tagkawayan.

No other details on the fatalities were provided.

Of the 212 deaths, 25 were recorded since the start of the new year. Lucena City, the capital of the province, had the highest number of fatalities at 53.

The number of active virus carriers in the province has since been recording an up-and-down trend after the holiday break.

On Jan. 20, the IPHO listed 392 active Covid-19 cases in the province, up from 376 the day before.

On Jan. 18, 381 recorded virus carriers indicated a remarkable decline from 397 the previous day.

The highest tally of active Covid-19 cases in Quezon was recorded on Nov. 12 last year at 1,119, which dropped to 245 on Jan. 4, its lowest daily record.

As of Jan. 20, Quezon, which remains under modified general community quarantine, logged a total of 6,698 Covid-19 cases and 6,094 recoveries since the World Health Organization declared the pandemic in March last year.

Lucena recorded 1,489 Covid-19 cases, with 72 remaining active ones.

Fifteen of the 41 towns in the province are now considered Covid-19-free.
