MANILA, Philippines — Apart from vaccines by China’s Sinovac and US’ Pfizer, the COVID-19 vaccine developed by the Gamaleya Institute of Russia may also arrive in the Philippines as early as February, Malacañang said Thursday.

“So pagdating po ng Pebrero, hindi lang 50,000 Sinovac ang available, mayroon na rin pong papasok na galing sa Pfizer at hindi rin po imposible na by February baka mayroon na rin tayong maangkat galing po sa Gamaleya ng Russia,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in an online briefing.

(In February, not only 50,000 of Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine will be available, but also those developed by Pfizer and it’s not impossible that by February, we will have vaccines from Russia’s Gamaleya.)

“So iyong 50,000, iyan po siguradong papasok ng Pebrero pero mas malaki pa po posible ang numero,” he added.

(The 50,000 will surely arrive in February but it is possible that the number will be bigger.)

Galvez earlier said the Philippines may secure Pfizer’s vaccines via the COVAX facility, a platform that aims to ensure rapid, fair and equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines for people in all countries.

So far, only Pfizer has secured an emergency use authorization (EUA) for its vaccine in the Philippines.
