4 more COVID-19 deaths logged in Eastern Visayas
TACLOBAN CITY—Eastern Visayas logged four more COVID-19 deaths, according to officials.
The Department of Health (DOH) in the region said the latest fatalities included a 45-year-old woman from the town of Quinapondan, Eastern Samar province, who died on Dec. 29.
Also on the list were a 58-year-old man from Palo, Leyte, who died on Jan. 6 and an 80-year-old woman from Marabut town, Samar province, who died also last Jan. 6.
The city government of Maasin also confirmed its first COVID-19 fatality involving a 58-year-old woman who died also on Jan. 6.
As of Thursday (Jan. 7), Eastern Visayas has 11,719 COVID-19 cases with 140 deaths.
In Ormoc City, Mayor Richard Gomez announced on Wednesday that the city government will be allocating P350 million for the purchase of coronavirus vaccines, syringes and storage areas.
The city government aims to administer the vaccine to at least 80 percent of Ormoc’s 240,000 population.
The city has 522 COVID-19 cases with seven fatalities.
Several local government units in the region earlier signified interest in buying their own vaccine supplies.
