TUGUEGARAO CITY – A baby girl was born inside an evacuation center here on Sunday and was named after Tropical Depression Vicky, which has triggered widespread flooding in Cagayan province and other parts of the country.

A midwife immediately responded to the emergency and helped the mother give birth, said Gerald Valdez, Sangguniang Kabataan chair of Barangay Annafunan East here.

Valdez was temporarily seeking shelter at the Annafunan East Integrated School due to the floods in the province when they heard a commotion at the nearby evacuation center, where the mother was staying.

According to Valdez, the mother and her baby were taken to a birthing clinic with the help of the village chief and a barangay nutrition scholar.

Vicky has enhanced the northeast monsoon rains, causing flooding in the province. [ac]
