Wallet helps Olongapo cops track down suspect in killing of woman

OLONGAPO CITY –– Police here on Tuesday arrested the suspect in the killing of a 20-year-old woman whose body was found inside her house in this city on Monday.

Ronnel Cabarrubias was arrested in San Marcelino, Zambales around 11 p.m. after a manhunt operation, said Pol. Col. Randy Arceo, chief of Olongapo City Police.

The suspect was immediately tagged as the prime suspect in the killing of Jennifer Dela Cruz after investigators found his wallet at the crime scene, Arceo said.

Cabbarubias was a former boyfriend of the victim’s sister.

Arceo said the victim’s cash and some belongings were reportedly missing from her house in Barangay New Cabalan.

The victim, a third-year college student, suffered at least three stab wounds to her neck. Her mother discovered her body.

Arceo said the suspect would face robbery with homicide charges.
