2 Albay fatalities reported as Typhoon Rolly whips province

albay LEGAZPI CITY – Two deaths were reported in  Albay after Typhoon Rolly (International name: Goni) pounded the province and the Bicol region Sunday morning. Alex Comia, head of the Daraga  Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said a still unidentified woman was pinned to death by falling tree branches in Barangay (village) Kimantong. Comia said the victim left the evacuation center to retrieve something from her residence when the tragic incident happened at around 7 a.m. In Guinobatan, Ligaya Olayta died after she was carried by swept away bylahar which was dislodged by the heavy rain from the gully of Mayon Volcano in Barangay Travesia. At least 14 houses were covered with lahar and volcanic debris in the said village, she added. Mayor Gemma Ongjoco said efforts are underway to verify a report that a college student is missing.
