MAN GUNNED DOWN IN TEJERO

A 37-YEAR-OLD man was shot dead outside his house in barangay Tejero, Cebu City, at dawn yesterday.

Police are looking into a possible connection with illegal drug activities in the death of Angelito “Gong-Gong” Araneta.

PO3 Ruth Violango, homicide investigator of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said Araneta’s live-in partner said they were sleeping when someone called Araneta’s name around 2 a.m.

Araneta went out of the house to check and was seen talking with a man.

The woman said the visitor drew a gun and shot her partner in the head then fled.

MAN DIES IN BIKE-TRUCK COLLISION

A MAN was killed after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a soft drink delivery truck in barangay Guizo, Mandaue City, last Monday night.

Niel Abacial of barangay Buhisan, Cebu City, was declared dead when he was brought to the Mandaue City Hospital.

The driver of the delivery truck, Amil Latonio, 36, was rushed to a Cebu City hospital when his blood pressure shot up after the accident.

Police said the collision occurred while the truck was about to leave the compound of a soft drinks company.

WOMAN FACES CHILD ABUSE CHARGES

CHARGES were filed in court against a foster mother who allegedly poured hot water on a 5-year-old boy in barangay Lipata, Minglanilla, southern Cebu.

Anna Suba will be facing trial on charges of violating Republic Act 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law.

Bail was recommended at P80,000.

Assistant Provincial Prosecutor Marlon Atillo filed the charges before the Regional Trial Court.

The incident happened last Jan. 21.

In his affidavit, the boy said he was playing at home when his stepmother poured hot water from the thermos on him.

“I cried because my leg was burned and it was so painful,” the boy said.

The boy also suffered burns in the left thigh, back of his body, and nape.

In an interview, the woman said she got irked because the boy kept playing while she was cooking their meal.

The parents of the victim were separated and the boy was entrusted to the care of his grandmother.
