LTO in Central Visayas suspends ‘drive-thru scheme’ for vehicle registration renewal in Cebu
CEBU CITY –– The Land Transportation Office in Central Visayas (LTO-7) has suspended its “drive-thru scheme” for those renewing their vehicle registrations in Cebu after it got overwhelmed with a huge number of clients lining up on the road.
The new scheme was started last July 6 because of the coronavirus situation. It has exceeded its capacity of 150 vehicles in a day.
In an advisory sent to the media, LTO-7 said the drive-thru services in Subangdaku, Mandaue City would be temporarily closed starting 5 p.m. of September 5 to make some improvements in the system.Land Transportation Office, Central Visayas, LTO-7, “drive-thru scheme,” vehicle registration, Cebu, regions
“We need to recalibrate our process and systems to better accommodate the growing clientele availing of LTO-7’s drive-thru service facility,” it said.
LTO-7 said the drive-thru scheme had caused traffic along the nearby roads because of the long queue of vehicles who want to renew their registrations.

In the drive-thru renewal scheme, the vehicle owner need not step out of the vehicle as it goes through the steps in the renewal of the car registration. There is also lesser contact with LTO personnel.
Since the drive-thru system began last July 6, it has processed the renewal of 5,075 vehicles as of September 3.
