Southwest monsoon to bring rains over PH

MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms in some  areas in the country on Tuesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

The weather bureau said the southwest monsoon will affect Northern and Central Luzon, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Ilocos provinces, Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will likewise have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers brought about by the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms.

Pagasa warned that flash floods or landslides may occur due to moderate with at times heavy rains.

The weather bureau also continues to monitor the active tropical cyclone outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility named Typhoon Bavi (formerly Igme).

It is located 990 kilometers north northeast of extreme northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 140 km per hour with gusts of up to 170 kph moving slowly in the north northwest direction.

Moderate to strong winds in the southwest direction will prevail over the northern and western parts of Northern Luzon, with moderate to rough sea waters.

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon will experience moderate winds and moderate coastal conditions, Pagasa said.

Light to moderate winds from southeast to southwest and slight to moderate coastal waters will likewise prevail over the rest of the country.
