5-day-old baby among Quezon’s coronavirus-related deaths

LUCENA CITY – Five coronavirus disease (COVID-19) related deaths, including a five-day-old baby girl, were recorded in Quezon province, authorities reported Monday night.

The local government of Sariaya town announced on social media that two confirmed COVID-19 patients – a baby girl from Barangay (village) Talaan Pantoc and a 49-year-old male welder from Barangay Concepcion Palasan who also had cerebrovascular illness – died.

Local health authorities were still investigating the source of infection of the victims.

In Lucena City, another validated virus carrier from Barangay Ibabang Dupay also expired, the city public information office reported without giving added details.

Lucena, the capital city of the province has a total of six COVID-19 mortalities, the highest in Quezon with a death toll of 29.

The Integrated Provincial Health Office also reported the death of two suspected virus carriers.

The death toll among those suspected of coronavirus infection but have yet to get confirmation has risen to 90 from April 14 to date.

From March 15 to April 13, the province’s health office record showed 44 deaths of persons suspected of having COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the town of Plaridel recorded its first COVID-19 case since the pandemic broke out, Mayor Bernard Tumagay said.

The locality’s first confirmed virus carrier is a 39-year-old security guard stationed in Mauban town and had been in Plaridel on August 19 in a visit to his family in Barangay Ilosong.

“But the patient is not in Plaridel. He is under the care of his employer in Mauban after he tested positive in a routine laboratory test,” Tumagay said in a phone interview Monday. The patient’s family is under home quarantine.

As of Monday afternoon, Quezon, reverted to general community quarantine until August 31, recorded a total of 895 COVID-19 cases, 391 of which are active. The province also logged a total of 475 recoveries.
