Eastern Visayas has 84 new COVID-19 cases

TACLOBAN CITY –– At least 84 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were registered in Eastern Visayas on Wednesday.

The town of Villareal in Samar province is among the areas with an increasing number of COVID-19.

Dr. Jearome Taboy, municipal health officer, said there has been local transmission of COVID-19 in their town.

On Wednesday, Villareal has 68 cases of COVID-19.

“As part of our measures, the lockdown has been imposed on our Poblacion, consisting of nine barangays. Also, several upland barangays have imposed their lockdowns,” Taboy said in a phone interview.

He said the town’s first COVID-19 case involves a teacher who could have infected her parents while doing her work for the opening of classes.

The teacher, who remains isolated, also infected her husband and three other household members.

Taboy said the town has at least 30 contact tracers.
