LUCENA CITY – A four-year-old girl, another health worker, and four local government employees assigned in a coronavirus disease (COVID-19) isolation facility in Guinayangan town are the latest coronavirus cases in Quezon province.

The local government of Guinayangan revealed the development on social media Sunday, adding that the spouse of a previous local “positive” patient also contracted the SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

The Guinayangan public information office reported that the town has recorded a total of 36 COVID-19 cases but at least 10 of these have recovered. The town still has 20 active virus carriers.

In Gumaca town, Mayor Webster Letargo, also disclosed that a four-year-old girl was one of their three latest COVID-19 cases.

Letargo said the girl was showing symptoms of the coronavirus but the two other patients are both asymptomatic.

Gumaca has 16 recorded cases with two recoveries.

Last week, authorities converted a covered multi-purpose gymnasium in Gumaca into a 60-beds “temporary treatment and monitoring facility” for validated virus carriers. It will serve Quezon’s 4th district and neighboring towns of Macalelon and Pitogo in the 3rd district.

Quezon, now reverted to general community quarantine (GCQ) starting Sunday, recorded a total of 664 cases since the pandemic broke out in March, with 344 active cases, 298 recoveries, and 22 deaths as of Sunday.

Governor Danilo Suarez justified the need for the province to revert to GCQ due to a rising number of “positive” patients particularly among health workers and uniformed personnel.
