Eastern Visayas’ COVID-19 death toll now 6

TACLOBAN CITY–Two more persons died of COVID-19 in Eastern Visayas, bringing the region’s fatality tally to six.

The Department of Health (DOH) said the latest deaths involved a 74-year-old woman from Dulag town and an 80-year-old man from Ormoc City, both in Leyte province.

Dr. Exuperia Sabalberino, DOH assistant regional director, said the man, who had been stranded, died on Aug. 7 while the female patient died last Aug. 11.

Both were buried immediately.

As of Wednesday, Eastern Visayas has 1,363 COVID-19 cases.

The historic town of Balangiga, Eastern Samar province logged its first COVID-19 case involving a 34-year-old man who returned to the town from Parañaque City, said Jonalyn Nandoza, a nurse at the town’s rural health unit.

Nandoza said the patient was in “good condition except that he is suffering from colds.”
