SANTIAGO CITY –– A villager in Quirino was the first confirmed case of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the province, local officials said.

Quirino Gov. Dakila Carlo Cua said the infection came despite health and safety protocols implemented to avoid the virus transmission.

“No need to panic. Let us all unite to combat COVID-19 by wearing face masks and observe social distancing. Avoid going out unnecessarily,” Cua said.

Health officials logged at least 66 other COVID-19 cases in Cagayan Valley on Monday evening.
