Ex-cop in 2016 killing of police intern arrested after 2 years

ILIGAN CITY—A former policeman who had been accused of involvement in the killing of a police intern in 2016 was arrested on Wednesday (July 22) at Hinaplanon village here.

Maj. Rixell Torayno, chief of Iligan City police station 1, said the suspect, Creighen Padayhag, a resident of Tipanoy village, was caught in his apartment at Hinaplanon after more than two years of hiding.

Padayhag has an arrest warrant issued on Jan. 22, 2018 by Judge Leonor Quiṅones, of Iligan City Regional Trial Court Branch 6.

Torayno said Padayhag initially showed resistance when police arrived to serve the arrest warrant, but he eventually submitted to authorities after seeing former colleagues outside his apartment.

Padayhag was one of seven police officers accused of involvement in the shooting of 21-year old Rafshanie Amerol Azis in 2016.

Azis, then a graduating Criminology student, was serving as police intern at the Iligan City Police Office. Padayhag was then with the intelligence unit.

Other policemen implicated in the case were then Senior Police Officer Regel Rabago, PO2 Raymond Cuyos, PO2 Dionirel Cutanda, PO1 Janeth Mission, PO1 Mabelle Hubilla and PO1 Andro Sumaylo.

But only Padayhag and Sumaylo were indicted for the crime while the cases for the five others had been dismissed.

Sumaylo, who is also on the arrest warrant issued by Quiṅones, remained at large.
