MANILA, Philippines — A new low-pressure area (LPA) has been spotted east of Mindanao but it will not affect the country’s climate for now, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Based on Pagasa’s 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the LPA was located 760 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.  It is expected to move closer to the country in the next 24 hours and will then affect parts of the country’s southern region, the state weather bureau said.

(By this time, the low-pressure area still has no direct effect on any part of the country but within 24 hours we can expect it to affect parts of Mindanao.)

Meanwhile, parts of Palawan will still experience cloudy skies with scattered rains on Thursday because of the remaining cloud bands from the previous LPA that dissipated Tuesday.

But in the southern part of Mindanao especially in Davao Region and Soccskargen, clouds and rains will prevail as temperatures in Davao will be between 25°C and 32°C, according to Pagasa.

As for the sea state, Pagasa said it will remain to be in slight to moderate conditions that no gale warning has been raised which means seafarers and fisherfolk using small boats can set sail.
