COVID-19 hits 4 MMDA workers; Main office closed on July 9-10

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) headquarters in Makati City will suspend operations for two days to make way for disinfection measures after four employees tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Field personnel, however, will remain on duty despite the headquarter’s two-day shutdown.

“Upon the recommendation of the MMDA COVID-19 Committee, we have decided to suspend the operations at all our offices for sanitation and disinfection to protect not only our personnel but also the transacting public against the virus,” MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim said in a statement on Tuesday.

The suspension of operation will be from July 9, Thursday to July 10, Friday.

MMDA said iy already conducted contact tracing initiatives. Close contacts of the infected personnel are undertaking a 14-day quarantine as a precautionary measure.

The four infected employees are confined at the agency’s own isolation facility.
