DOJ: Ex-Wirecard exec not in PH in June
MANILA, Philippines — Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Saturday said the Bureau of Immigration (BI) had established that Jan Marsalek, former chief operating officer of collapsed payments firm Wirecard AG, did not arrive in the Philippines last month.
Guevarra said that based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage, airline manifests and other records, Marsalek did not arrive in the Philippines via Cebu on June 23 nor depart the following day.
There was also no departing flight to China that Marsalek allegedly took in the BI database.
Guevarra said BI personnel who encoded the fictitious entries in the BI database had been relieved and would face administrative cases.
“The investigation has now turned to the persons who made the false entries in the database, their motives and their cohorts,” he said.
Guevarra said he would direct the National Bureau of Investigation “to probe into this matter more deeply and determine possible criminal responsibility.”
