2 dolphin calves caught in fish net die

ORMOC CITY—Two dolphin calves died while being treated after they got entangled in a fishing net in Malitbog town, Southern Leyte province on Sunday (June 21).
Josie Bag-ao, agriculture technician of the town, said local fisherman Bambino Rio caught the dolphins while on a fishing trip.
“Rio was surprised to see the two mammals inside the fish net,” he said.
Rio pulled the fish net to the shoreline and immediately informed the agriculture office about the incident.
One of the spinner dolphin calves measured 1.36 meters long and weighed 15 kilograms. The other was 1.13 meters long and weighed 11 kilograms.
The two dead dolphins were buried at the back of the agriculture office.
