3 returnees test positive for COVID-19 in Palawan town

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY—The southern town of Sofronio Española in Palawan recorded a total of five confirmed COVID-19 cases after three returnees from Metro Manila tested positive for the deadly infection on Friday.

Dr. Rhodora Tingson, municipal health officer (MHO), said Saturday morning that the five COVID-19 confirmed patients were from June 5 and June 14 batches of returnees.

“Yesterday, two confirmed cases were reported from June 5 arrival. The result of another returnee [from the same batch] arrived today. He’s a 19-year-old male LSI,” Tingson said.

The other two COVID-19 positive patients, including a 55-year-old female and an 8-year-old female LSIs, arrived on June 14 aboard 2Go Shipping Lines.

“The results for the June 14 arrival via 2GO also returned positive. These are a 55-year-old female and an 8-year-old female LSIs,” Tingson added.

The COVID-19 positive patients remained asymptomatic and isolated in 11 government facilities in this southern town.

“We have 11 government quarantine facilities [with] more or less 60 beds in total [including] convention hall, evacuation center and nine barangay quarantine facilities,” Tingson said.

The recent development brings the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the province to 15, with 12 active cases from different batches of LSI and overseas Filipino worker (OFW) returnees and one female nurse from Ospital Ng Palawan (ONP) who was a “possible local transmission” case.
