Another Cebu City cop with COVID-19 dies

CEBU CITY –– Another policeman, who tested positive for the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19), died in a hospital here at past 9 p.m. on Friday.

“He was hospitalized because of COVID-19, but we have to wait for the death certificate,” said Col. Cydric Earl Tamayo, officer-in-charge of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).

As part of the health protocol, the policeman was immediately cremated.

Tamayo declined to identify the policeman to protect the privacy of his family.

The policeman, who served as an investigator at the CCPO’s Investigation and Detection Management Branch, was admitted to a private hospital last June 10 after he had trouble breathing and had coughs.

He underwent swab testing and was found to have contracted the coronavirus disease.

He was the third policeman in Cebu City, who died after testing positive for COVID-19.

Last June 14, an operative of the Abellana Police Station and a police officer assigned at the Crisis Response Battalion team, which was the unit assigned to secure places under lockdown, succumbed to the dreaded virus.
