1.3 million beneficiaries to get cash aid this week – DSWD
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Tuesday said it would distribute the second tranche of cash aid to some 1.3 million household beneficiaries of its Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), who are from enhanced community quarantine areas and already have cash cards.
In an online press briefing, Social Welfare Undersecretary Rene Glen Paje said the names of these beneficiaries were already in a nationwide database and have been deduplicated.
Next in line to receive the cash aid under the second tranche are the 5 million “waitlisted” beneficiaries “who were not able to receive it during the first tranche,” Paje said.
The DSWD has come under fire for its slow distribution of cash aid to indigent families most affected by the community quarantine meant to control the spread of the new coronavirus disease. Under the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, the government committed to provide cash aid in April and May to about 18 million households greatly affected by the lockdown.
