Lucena logs 13 new COVID-19 cases in a single day

LUCENA CITY – This capital city of Quezon province has recorded 13 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on Tuesday, June 9.

In its 8 p.m. emergency bulletin, the Quezon public information office (QPIO) showed that Lucena City now has a total of 61 validated COVID-19 patients, a huge spike from its record on Monday which is only 48.

No detail was given about the 13 new cases, though.

Lucena’s record of 61 cases was the largest list of validated virus carriers in a single locality in the province since the pandemic broke out.

But at least half of the total number of cases, or 32, have already recovered, bringing the number of local active virus carriers to 31.

There’s no COVID-19 death yet in this city.

The surge of new COVID-19 patients has thrown most residents here into a panic.

Local netizens demanded that authorities again place the city under a total lockdown to stop the spread of the virus.

Some of them appealed to residents to strictly follow all safety protocols laid down by the authorities.

Arnel Avila, city public information officer, emphasized that there was still the presence of COVID-19 and every citizen should continue to observe safety and follow the guidelines.

Quezon, now under general community quarantine, has a total of 127 confirmed COVID-19 cases in its record as of Tuesday night.

At least 77 of the patients have recovered, but nine others had died.

The province now has a total of 41 active virus carriers including the 31 COVID-19 patients from Lucena City.
