LUCENA CITY –– The mayor of Catanauan town in Quezon province has extended the “lockdown” period in the village where the first coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patient resides.

Mayor Ramon Orfanel announced on his Facebook page on Thursday noon the extension of the lockdown in Barangay Dahican until June 7. People who are not residents of the village are barred from entering it, while residents could not leave without a government permit.

Orfanel said the extension was recommended by the Rural Health Unit and the local Inter-Agency Task Force to continue contact tracing on the 45-year-old female patient.

On Tuesday, Orfanel ordered the village to be cordoned off for up to 48 hours to prevent the transmission of SARS-Cov2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

The patient showed COVID-19 symptoms, such as fever, cough, cold, sore throat, and difficulty in breathing. She also had hypertension.

The woman had not traveled to infected places but had contact with a suspected virus carrier who came from Manila, the mayor said.
