Low pressure area near Mindanao

/ 03:55 AM June 07, 2011

A low pressure area (LPA) is expected to bring rains to Palawan and Mindanao in the coming days, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Monday.

The weather bureau said the LPA was estimated at 260 kilometers east of Mindanao as of 2 p.m. Monday.

Pagasa said the disturbance was imbedded in the inter-tropical convergence zone, or the place where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge.

It said the LPA and the ITCZ would bring scattered to widespread rains over Palawan and Mindanao that could trigger flash floods and landslides. It advised residents to take caution.
