Grade 9 Muntinlupa student uses scholarship allowance to buy relief goods
MANILA, Philippines — A Grade 9 student – scholar from Muntinlupa City proved that one does not have to be well off or very wealthy to extend a helping hand to those in need amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Jarred Gaviola, a 15-year-old student at Muntinlupa Science High School, said he spent his P3,000 scholarship allowance to buy 100 milk packs and 370 coffee sachets for families in Barangay Tunasan and Barangay Bayanan, and for canteen and utility workers at his school.
“It started from my own scholarship allowance. Because for me, there are many people who are hungry and needing food. They need more care as time goes by,” Gaviola shared in a Facebook post on May 4.
“I decided to use my scholarship (allowance) because many of my countrymen were greatly affected by this pandemic. I saw many people in need, a lot of people on the street were waiting for help. There are a lot of families who are starving because of what’s happening in the country,” Gaviola told INQUIRER.net.
Gaviola said in his Facebook post that he used the scholarship allowance given by the local government to buy these milk packs and coffee sachets.
