SC magistrate wants public to report any case of ‘justice for sale’

MANILA, Philippines — Supreme Court Associate Justice Andres Reyes Jr. is retiring on May 11 after nearly three years on the bench. Reyes, whose judicial career spanned 33 years, will reach the mandatory retirement age of 70 on Monday.

President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Reyes to the high court on July 13, 2017.

Before this, Reyes had been the presiding justice of the Court of Appeals since Feb. 10, 2010. Reyes was appointed to the appellate court in 1999, after serving as a trial judge since 1987.

The President has 90 days from May 11, the time of vacancy, to appoint a new justice from a list of nominees to be submitted by the Judicial and Bar Council.

Due to the enhanced community quarantine, the JBC said it would conduct the interviews of candidates for the Supreme Court online.
