DILG issues show cause orders vs mayors, barangay captains for ECQ ‘violations’
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) issued show-cause orders (SCO) against five mayors and 100 barangay captains for supposedly violating protocols of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
“Sa mayors, may 5 mayors, tapos sa barangay captains umaabot na mga 100. Mostly, ay dito sa Metro Manila,” Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said in an interview on dzBB on Thursday when asked about updates on SCOs filed against local officials.
The local officials with SCOs will be asked to respond to their alleged violations.
Año then noted that local executives will also face formal complaints if it is proven that they violated provisions of the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.
“Meron pa ring criminal charges na pwedeng isampa dahil sa violation ng Bayanihan to Heal as One Act. (There are criminal charges that we can file against them for violation of the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.),” he said.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government previously issued SCOs to three provincial governors, two mayors and 29 barangay captains for breaching ECQ rules.
