DOH: 1,336 healthcare workers are COVID-positive; 29 die

MANILA, Philippines — There are now 1,336 healthcare workers infected with the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2 that causes the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Department of Health (DOH) said on Tuesday.

This is up by 91 cases from that reported by the health department on Monday, April 27.

So far, 29 healthcare professionals have already succumbed to the disease — 22 of which were physicians or doctors.

Below is the breakdown of the COVID-positive healthcare workers:

Doctors – 493

Nurses – 507

Nursing Assistants – 74

Medical Technologists – 28

Midwives – 11

Respiratory Therapist – 11

The 1,336 healthcare professionals are among the 7,958 individuals in the country confirmed to have COVID-19. The country’s death toll is at 530 while 975 patients were able to recover.
