NPA member slain in Sorsogon clash

LEGAZPI CITY –– An unidentified member of the New People’s Army was killed in an encounter with Army soldiers in Irosin, Sorsogon on Thursday morning.

Captain John Paul Belleza, Philippine Army’s 9th Infantry Division public affairs chief, said while conducting security operations, soldiers and Sorsogon police encountered an undetermined number of rebels, leading to a 10-minute gunfight in Barangay Gabao at 7:40 a.m.

The body of an unidentified rebel was recovered in the clash site, while the other rebels fled towards different directions.

The government forces recovered an M16 rifle, several anti-personnel mines, equipment, and supplies.
